CHURCHES in the Holywell area are set to welcome a new vicar from Birmingham.

The Rev Kathryn Evans, will begin her new ministry in Bagillt, Gorsedd, Mostyn and Whitford and in the wider Mission Area of Estuary and Mountain on February 9.

Mrs Evans’ ministry will be inaugurated with a service of welcome led by the Bishop of St Asaph that will take place in the Church of St. Mary and Peter, Bagillt, at 3.30pm.

The Bishop of St Asaph, Gregory Cameron, said: “We look forward to welcoming Kathryn to her new ministry in the Diocese of St Asaph.

“Kathryn is an enthusiastic and warm-hearted person who is committed to building up churches in confident discipleship and helping them reach out to their communities.”

Mrs Evans was born and raised in Birmingham within a Christian family.

She also trained as a nurse and midwife, which saw her spending most of her nursing career in primary care - including working as a practice nurse, respiratory specialist nurse and in senior management in an inner-city, Primary Care Trust.

She started training for ordained ministry in 2012 at St John’s College, Nottingham, and since ordination has served in churches in the Black Country, and most recently as vicar of Oldbury, Langley and Londonderry.

Alongside husband Bob, Mrs Evans has managed to enjoy the occasional opportunity to be part of Welsh life for the past five years - due to having a flat in Deganwy.

Mrs Evans added: “We are really looking forward to coming to North Wales on a full-time basis and joining the Teulu Asaph and being part of the communities.”
