A WOMAN from Chirk will be competing for the ‘Wales’ Strongest Woman’ title on February 29.
Kelly Proctor, 40, will be participating for the first time at this level - after training as a ‘strongwoman’ for just over a year.
Speaking ahead of the competition - which will be held at the Llangollen Pavillion for the first time this year - Ms Proctor, expressed her joy at being able to receive greater recognition for her hard work within a somewhat male dominated industry.

She said: “It’s a big opportunity for us ladies to be able to compete in a venue like this.
“Due to me being 40, I will be competing in the masters category - but there’s also categories for under 63kg, under 82kg - as well as the open weight category.
“All of these categories will have qualification for the top finishers into ‘Britain’s Strongest Woman’ later in the year.
“There are 23 competitors entered - some of the ladies have competed at both ‘World’ and ‘European’ level and some, like myself, are stepping up for the first time.
“It has been a truly inspiring process to be part of and we have had training days together and spurred each other on throughout.
“I’m hoping to highlight and promote the sport within our area.”
On the door entry fee for the event is priced at £5 per person.
Doors will open at 10am but the event will commence at 11am.
Llangollen will also be hosting the ‘Wales’ Strongest Man’ competition in April.
