YOUNG students at a Flintshire high school have produced poetry and artwork to celebrate Winter in Wales.
The year 7 Flint High School students have recently been studying Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Selfish Giant’ which has a clear focus on the seasons and was the springboard for the project which is a collaboration between the English and art departments.
Alongside their creative writing, the students produced a range of powerful images showing the beauty of the winter landscape to celebrate the landscape and the changing season in and around the country.
David Jones, English teacher, said: “It is great to see these students gaining confidence in their use of language and celebrating the natural world through poetry. They have created a range of interesting and imaginative pieces of writing, using detailed and ambitious vocabulary.
“These students are to be congratulated on some excellent pieces of poetry and artwork.”
Jack Vincent added: “I really enjoyed doing the project, using my creative skills to produce poetry and art. It also helped me develop my language skills. It was good to write about Wales and the seasons in the form of a poem and link it to pictures and drawings connected to the theme of winter that we have created.”
