THE transformation of a town heritage site is about to begin, it has been announced.

After 10 years of planning, preparations and grant applications, the Bailey Hill Steering Group has announced the appointment of the lead Contractor for ‘Revealing Mold’s Bailey Hill’ restoration work.

T G Williams Builders, a family run business based in St Asaph with experience of undertaking major renovation work on historical buildings and sites, has been appointed.

Primary work has already started on site this week in preparation for the start date on Monday (February 3).

Gary Williams, project manager for T G Williams Builders, said: “We are extremely proud to have secured this contract and the team are excited to get going on this important and historic project that will no doubt benefit the local community and surrounding areas.

“This is going to be a team effort and we look forward to working with the Bailey Hill Steering Group.”

The Bailey Hill Steering group - which is a partnership between Flintshire Council, Mold Town Council and the Friends of Bailey Hill - have secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, LEADER funding through Cadwyn Clwyd, Tourism Amenity Investment Support, Landfill Tax Communities Scheme and from the generosity and fund raising efforts of the local community.

The funding has been secured for the progression and implementation of the Bailey Hill Masterplan, which includes an open air performance area, improved access to the site and redevelopment of the Custodian’s Cottage into a facility for the benefit of the community.

With improving access to the park as one of the major elements of the redevelopment, a great deal of construction work will be taking place in the entrance to the Bailey Hill.

Every effort will be made to keep the park open to the public, however due to health and safety reasons there may be occasions when the park is closed for short periods of time.

Regular updates will be displayed on an information board just inside of the main entrance of the park as well as on the Bailey Hill social media pages, Facebook: @BaileyHillProjectOfficer and Twitter: @bh_officer.

Jo Lane, Bailey Hill project officer, said: “It is an extremely exciting time for the project and for everyone who has been involved in getting to this point.

“Having grown up in Mold and spending so much of my childhood exploring the park, I am extremely excited to see the Bailey Hill restored and improved for all to access.

“The Bailey Hill is an important part of the Mold community, and with the improvements being made will be even more so.”

Work will start on Monday and is expected to take six months to complete. Working hours for T G Williams is likely to be 8am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, with occasional work taking place on Saturday mornings.
