STAFF jobs at cafes in Llandudno and Llandudno Junction will be saved despite the original owner’s company going into liquidation.

Both the Providero cafes were was set up using crowd funding campaigns.

The cafes, which are in Mostyn Street, Llandudno and Conwy Road, Llandudno Junction, will continue to operate under a new company and all staff will continue to be employed.

The original company used crowd funding campaigns for each of the cafes and which offered backers who had pledged money, £2’s worth of coffees for every £1 they contributed, lunch, coffee and cake for the themselves and four friends, a barista course, or a bag of speciality coffee beans posted each month for a year.

The first café in Llandudno Junction was set up in 2014 and was followed by the Llandudno branch three years later. Both benefitted from crowd funding campaigns. They were set up by Jon Hughes and his wife Elinor, and it is believed the pair will continue to manage the operation.

Originally 19 members of staff were hired across both shops and the name for the business is a take on the latin word provideo meaning to look after and care for.

Robert Rutherford of Parkin S Booth, licensed insolvency practitioners, who dealt with the case, said: “The company ceased to trade and went into liquidation on January 10. The assets had been sold prior to us becoming involved.

“Another company now operates on the sites and they have taken all the existing staff.”

Both cafes have received numerous favourable reviews on social media which referred to their high quality coffee, cakes, fresh baked French pastries and lemon drizzle cake. The Pioneer tried to contact Providero but a voice message said its mail box was full.
