A LLAY family have raised hundreds of pounds for a charity that helped them through their darkest hour.

David Jones and his family have hosted a charity bingo night at Llay Miner’s Welfare in memory of his mother who lost her battle with terminal breast cancer and have this week handed over a cheque for just over £1,780.

Mary was cared for in her home by Marie Curie nurses until her death, but son David has said that the nurses were a huge support to the whole family.

He said: “Mum’s nurse Donna was like Mary Poppins for us all, she made the unbearable situation of losing your mum and loved one that bit easier to come to terms with. She was there for us all and I am glad we were able to raise so much fo the charity that helped our family through its darkest hour.”

A grand total of £1,353.41 was raised on the bingo night and a further £428.84 was raised in donations at the funeral.

David added: “It was a great night and we were supported by lots of local businesses that donated prizes and even the Llay Miners Welfare that donated the use of the room to us for the night so we didn’t have to factor in that cost.”

He also praised the staff working on the Shooting Star ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital that helped his mother.
