DATA for the electric car charging points outside Holywell Town Council’s office was discussed at the recent meeting of councillors.

Figures revealed that the charging station was used a total of eight times by electric car users in the town and provided a total of £12.54 in revenue to the council.

The electric vehicle charging points were installed in August 2018.

Cllr Ted Palmer, representing the Central Holywell area, said: “It is good to see the electric car charging point being used and usage is going up. It’s going up more and more.”

The figures did cause some confusion regarding the low income to the council but this was explained further by Cllr Palmer.

He said: “We as councillors decided that, rather than use the station to make profit, we would just charge users the cost of the electricity to the council.

“If we wanted to charge like the garages do then we would probably see a higher figure and we might even be making a profit but as the decision wasn’t about profit-making - it was part of a green agenda thing - we decided it would just be a small charge for the usage.”

Department for Transport statistics previously reported by the Leader show that 249 ultra-low emission vehicles were licensed in Flintshire at the end of September – almost a third (30 per cent) more than at the same point a year earlier.

The figures include battery electric, hybrid, and fuel cell electric vehicles.
