PROPOSALS to turn a Holywell village hall into holiday let accommodation have been refused.

A planning application received by Flintshire Council requested permission for the change of use at a site on the B5121 Brynford Crossroads to the A55 underbridge.

The planning application states the building in question is unused and empty, but was last used as a village hall.

Flintshire Council has now confirmed the scheme has been refused.

A planning officer’s report states: “The proposed conversion of the former church hall into a holiday let could be acceptable given its location within the settlement boundary of Brynford.

“However, the building is located adjacent to the Church of St Michael which is a Grade II Listed Building.

“The proposal as submitted raises significant concerns over the impact on the adjoining listed building.

“In particular, the enlargement of the existing window on the front elevation and changes to the entrance door will detrimentally affect the historic value of the adjacent listed building.

“In addition, the proposed changes to the windows to UPVC and insertion of a ground floor roof light are considered to be unacceptable.

“Finally, the blocking up of the existing single doorway and replacement with double doors will detrimentally affect the current historical appearance and overall architectural balance that is in place currently.”
