Motorists were advised to expect delays as congestion, which normally builds at the A55/A51 junction during rush-hour, has seen tailbacks as far as the M53 motorway.
Police advised motorists to avoid the area if possible.
Police, fire and ambulance teams were deployed to the scene. No-one was reported as being trapped inside the vehicles and fire crews made the area safe.
Two people were treated by paramedics and the road was reopened at about noon.
