A SHOP’s closure announcement will be a ‘huge blow to the town’ a councillor has said.
Homebase has announced it will be closing its last store in North Wales, with the nearest store being Merseyside.
The Leader reported in late 2018 that the retailer confirmed it was closing over 40 stores nationwide - one of which included Wrexham.
Signs have now gone up at the Mold store, confirming its closure, meaning there will be no Homebase stores in the North Wales region.
The nearest store will be based on the Wirral.
A spokesman for the store confirmed it will be closing but no official date has been confirmed
Cllr Tim Maunders, Mayor of Mold, said: “This will be a huge blow to the town. It will be horrible for the area.”
Leader readers had their say on the announcement via social media.
Nicky Johnson said: "It's a shame as there's nothing much as in DIY shops around anymore, basically you've got Chester Wrexham and the Wirral."
Sandra Font added: "You'd think after the Food Warehouse and Home Bargains opened, business would be better. Although I have no idea why they closed the path through to other car park."
