RHYL All Stars suffered REM Jones Cup heartbreak after a penalty shootout loss on home soil to Denbigh Development.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One outfit fell to spot kick drama after a thrilling second round clash that finished 3-3 after extra time, where they took an early lead through Jamie Hughes with just six on the clock.

Craig Morris’ men restored parity to the score-line midway through the half when Rob Lawson found the net on 29 minutes, only for Adam Cassidy to put the home side back in front with 39 gone.

After the break saw Jack Jones level matters for a second time on 48 minutes after a good start to the second period from the visitors, who took the lead for the first-time courtesy of a Joel Rowlands strike on 96 minutes.

There was still time for further drama, which arrived on 115 minutes as a Ricky Roberts goal sent the game to penalties, where the away side emerged victorious 5-4 to advance.

Division One championship contenders Llysfaen cruised into the third round with a 7-1 home rout over Llanfairfechan Town Reserves.

Sean Sheridan produced another clinical display to play a leading role in his side’s success, hitting a hat-trick to extend his exceptional recent run of form.
