A TOWN councillor calls for free parking in the community to ease 'parking chaos'.

The Leader previously reported the issues around parking at Wepre Park, particularly at weekends and during the school holidays.

Residents expressed their frustration, describing it as a 'nightmare' and an 'accident waiting to happen'.

Michael Lomax said: "It’s dangerous for children and over the weekend it was that bad you wouldn’t have got an emergency vehicle through. It's uncontrollable."

However, Cllr Bernie Attridge, of Connah's Quay, has urged Flintshire Council to consider free parking at the council owned carpark near the Civic Hall.

In an email addressed to members, he said: "Can you consider as a matter of urgency making The council owned car park at the old Somerfield free for weekends and bank holidays until such time a solution at Wepre Park is found,as it won't happen over night.

"I feel if adequate signage was provided on all access routes to Connah's Quay this would help with the chaos residents are experiencing.

"I hope Cabinet can give this urgent attention due to the ongoing issues."

Cllr Attridge told the Leader that this will be discussed with officers and cabinet and will also be brought up at the next town council meeting in February.
