An “OUTGOING, loud and jokey” father from Newtown took his own life, a coroner has concluded.

Grant Paul Lindsay, 44, died on May 13 at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after overdosing on medication for a heart condition.

An inquest held in Welshpool heard Mr Lindsay was in a “deeply unhappy situation” and had attempted to take his life in Scotland weeks earlier.

His former partner raised her concerns during the hearing about why he had not been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

The inquest heard that Mr Lindsay convinced the Mental Health Crisis Team that he would keep himself safe and that it was “not appropriate” to section him at that stage.

South Wales Central Coroner Andrew Barkley said that after looking at the case, there were “quite clear details” that the duty worker directly questioned him about self-harm and suicide.

The coroner said he could not find any gross failure.

The inquest heard Mr Lindsay took an overdose and was admitted to hospital where he died from a heart attack. The coroner recorded a verdict of suicide.
