An inquest has been opened into the death of a popular football fan who was involved in a single vehicle collision at Horseman’s Green, near Wrexham, last week.

The inquest opening was told Stewart Millington, 22, was travelling with two friends in a BMW on the A525 Wrexham – Whitchurch road when it left the road and collided with a tree in the early hours of January 5.

He was taken to the major trauma unit at the Royal Stoke University Hospital but died the following day.

Mr Millington, a factory worker, of Edward German Drive, Whitchurch, was a loyal supporter of Whitchurch Alport FC and had the club’s badge tattooed on his chest. Home Office pathologist Dr Bryan Rogers gave a provisional cause of death as shock due to severe abdominal trauma.

At a brief hearing in Ruthin John Gittins, coroner for North Wales East and Central, said police investigations were continuing, and he adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
