A STOPPAGE time effort from Jac Lloyd gave Abergele a dramatic 3-2 victory at Y Glannau.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division title hopefuls remain on the coattails of Rhuddlan Town after snatching three points at the death despite a spirited fightback from Chris Fontana’s men in the second period.

Gele will look to take their unbeaten league record into next Saturday’s Premier Cup second round clash at Llanfairfechan Town, who sit one place back in third and four points behind with three games in hand.

An imposing start from the home side saw them go ahead after just two minutes when prolific forward Jack Hoult took advantage of some hesitant defending to break the deadlock.

Both sides missed opportunities to impact the score further during the remainder of the first half, but the visitors came out with a renewed sense of purpose after the interval and increased their cushion on 47 minutes when a neat passage of play presented a chance to Liam Roberts, who made no mistake with the finish.

Credit to the home side, who remained undeterred despite their deficit and found a route back into the tie on 52 minutes when Owain Jones finished well after a rare spell of pressure.

Things got even better for the home side midway through the half when a superb strike from Connor Heath with 63 on the clock restored parity to the score-line.

This looked to be enough to secure a share of the spoils, but Gele had other ideas and claimed bragging rights with virtually the final attack of the game when Lloyd hit the target.
