A FLINTSHIRE woman who is a great-great grandmother to 17 people has celebrated turning 100 years old with the Chair of Flintshire County Council.

Councillor Marion Bateman met Mrs Anne Mary Ellis on December 21, when she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs Ellis was the third child of Will and Ellen Evans and went to St David’s School in Mold before leaving at the age of 14 to become a nanny for her cousin in Colwyn Bay, where she later met and married her husband Charles Howells.

The couple had a daughter, named Ursula, as well as two sons, Charles Lester and Roger, all of whom were born in Rhyl.

Her husband sadly passed away in 1946, leaving Mrs Ellis to move back to Mold where she met and married Jim Ellis in 1970, although he passed away four years ago.

Mrs Ellis still enjoys going out for walks for fresh air, having lunch with her loved ones, and telling stories of her youth.

She has 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren – with two more on the way.
