A FLINTSHIRE man has denied breaking a window at a surgery in Holywell, but admitted spitting in a police vehicle after being arrested.

Nathan James Bennett, 30, of Parkhall Road in Greenfield was picked up by police officer in the early hours of Tuesday morning (January 7) after they responded to reports of a window being broken at a surgery in the town.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, told Mold Magistrates Court that Bennett had been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage but on route to custody, he became aggressive in the police vehicle, spitting out several times as well as being heard to shout, “This is all you’re worth”.

Ms Jackson said the police vehicle would need to deep cleaned following the incident, which would cost North Wales police around £120.

Simon Simmons, defending, told the court that his client had denied breaking the window, but admitted losing his temper due to his frustrations at being arrested.

He went on to say his client had been released from a lengthy period in custody less than a year ago and that “nobody likes spitting”.

Mr Simmons said Bennett had been leading a much more productive life following his release from prison and Deputy District Judge Gerallt Jones gave him a 12 month conditional discharge rather than impose a financial penalty.

Bennett must however pay £120 compensation to North Wales Police, costs of £85 and a £21 surcharge.

He was bailed in relation to the charge of causing criminal damage until January 31.
