PRESTATYN Sports began the new year with a 3-3 home draw against Mynydd Llandegai.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side are aiming to improve their fortunes during the second half of the campaign and picked up their first home point thanks to a much-improved display against their third-tier counterparts.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ men will look to build on this positive momentum during their next outing at Penrhyndeudraeth on Saturday, who come into the game on the back of a narrow 1-0 win at Llandyrnog United.

A strong start from the home side saw them unable to convert any of the chances that came their way, and they were made to pay for their lack of efficiency in front of goal when Iwan Owen gave the visitors the lead on 36 minutes against the run of play.

Things looked bleak for the hosts when another lapse in concentration saw Gavin Owen double the away side’s advantage on 43 minutes, but Sports’ responded well to the setback and halved the deficit just before the break thanks to a superb strike from Shane Middleman in stoppage time.

After the break saw the home side dominate the early exchanges and they were rewarded with a leveller on 55 minutes that arrived courtesy of Ian Dunn following a period of sustained pressure.

This joy proved to be fleeting as Mynydd regained the upper hand late on thanks to a Liam Willingham effort on 80 minutes, but once again Sports’ fought back in fine style and salvaged something from the game when Dunn popped up to despatch his second of the contest in the dying stages.
