HUNDREDS of people from all around the country turned up to Connah’s Quay on New Years Day to help towards creating a record parkrun.

More than 400 people took part in the 2020 Wepre Park run on Wednesday, making it a record total for the event.

The exact figure of 409 runners smashes last year’s total of 304 and run director Phil Tugwell has thanked everyone who attended or supported the occasion.

The Leader:

He said: “The Wepre Park run went really well. It was our biggest turnout ever with over a hundred more people coming than on New Years Day last year.

“There were people from all around the UK, including some from as far out as Surrey, Birmingham and Manchester.

“I want to give a big thank you to each of the 409 runners and walkers who completed the New Years Day parkrun at Wepre with it being the largest field we have ever had.

“It has eclipsed last year’s turnout of 304 runners and walkers, and we couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our 37 amazing volunteers.”

The Wepre parkrun is a free 5km timed run that is open to people of all ages and abilities and takes place at 9am every Saturday and every New Year’s Day.
