A FALLEN tree caused disruption and delays in Holywell on Wednesday after blocking most of a commonly used road for around two hours.

North Wales Police were first alerted to the fallen tree on New Road in Holywell at 11.06am, with it obstructing nearly all of the two lanes and forcing drivers to mount the pavement to get around it.

The Police contacted the Highways Department and also attended the scene themselves only to find an individual with a chainsaw already trying to clear away the tree.

Local resident, Richard Chamberlain, said: “I didn’t even realise the tree had fallen until a friend of mine called me and told me about it at around 11.30 in the morning.

“It had been there for a while without any police or council workers there before I then heard someone going at it with a chainsaw. It wasn’t until the afternoon that the council came and cleared it all up properly."

In response, Flintshire County Council’s Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation, Steve Jones, said:

“The Council was called to deal with a fallen tree in Holywell on New Year’s Day and Well Hill was closed for approximately 2 hours to allow the work to be completed. Work on the remaining trees will be undertaken in the coming days.”
