THE MRI scanner at Maelor Hospital is back up and running, it has been confirmed.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board confirmed on December 31 that the scanner is working once again after it broke down over the Christmas period.

The Leader had reported how approximately 100 appointments had been cancelled as a result of the scanner's breakdown - but the health board says it is in the process of rebooking appointments, with "priority given to patients with the most urgent clinical need".

An MRI scan can be used to examine almost any part of the body - including the brain and spinal cord, bones and joints, breasts, heart and blood vessels and internal organs, such as the liver, womb or prostate gland.

The Leader was informed on how on patient had waited over three months for the appointment - and now faces uncertainty as to when it will be rebooked.
