STAFF and students at Ysgol Treffynnon have embraced the Christmas spirit to help local families in need as well as raising funds for a global children’s charity.

An appeal was set up earlier this month asking for food items and toiletries to be donated for Erw Groes Family Centre in Holywell which is run by the Clwyd Alyn Housing Association.

The centre provides high quality short term and emergency accommodation for homeless families as well as offering a range of support including advice about welfare benefits, healthcare, and a structured move on plan.

It is the second year that the school has supported the charity by making up hampers of donated items to help families over the Christmas period.

Anneke Perrett, the school’s Business Manager, said: “We are pleased to be supporting this charity again this year.

"A few of our students past and present have benefitted from the support that the charity has provided at a difficult time in their lives so for us to be able to help in some small way means a lot.

“This year we have collected enough supplies to make Christmas hampers for fifteen families, which is fantastic. We would like to thank staff and students for their help and generosity.”

A Christmas Jumper/Own Clothes Day was also held during the last week of term. Staff and students raised £380 for international charity, Save The Children.
