PRESTATYN Town extended their advantage at the top of the JD Cymru North standings to seven with a comfortable 3-0 win at Gresford Athletic.

Another accomplished display from the Seasiders’ leaves them comfortably ahead of title rivals Flint Town United ahead their crucial derby clash at home to Rhyl on Saturday, where they will look to avenge their defeat to the Lilywhites’ earlier on in the season.

A positive start from the away side saw Jordan Davies go close on three minutes after linking up well with Rob Hughes, and Ross Weaver came within a whisker of breaking the deadlock with five on the clock when he drilled an attempt wide of the target.

Their early persistence finally paid off on eight minutes when Davies and Hughes were once again involved in an eye-catching exchange before the former kept his composure to convert the chance and put his side in the ascendancy.

Long range efforts from Hughes and Ben Maher soon after almost doubled the visitors’ advantage, with Athletic stopper Ben Jones producing a memorable save to deny Macauley Taylor midway through the half.

After the break saw Town increase the tempo further following an early scare when Jon Rushton tipped a free-kick over the bar, and they doubled their tally a minute before the hour mark when Hughes presented Taylor with another opportunity and this time he made no mistake with the finish.

Danny Davies and Hughes were both wasteful with strikes midway through the half as the away side looked to put the game to bed, which they had a golden chance to do five minutes from time when they were awarded a penalty that resulted in Jones receiving his marching orders.

Former Prestatyn keeper Jonathan Hill-Dunt came off the bench to relieve the sent off keeper, but he could do nothing to prevent Hughes from despatching the spot kick to round off the scoring.
