A WREXHAM club has presented a £6,589 donation to buy specialist equipment to help move sick babies safely between wards or to another hospital.

Mat Evans, general manager of ATIK on Brook Street, nominated the children’s ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital to receive the money for a Baby Pod and positioning straps. It will provide an alternative to a larger, more cumbersome transporter incubator while keeping babies warm and safe.

Mat said: “The donation is from our company’s Echo Trust charity to give something back to our local community. Our customers are always generous when we hold regular collections for the Echo Trust at the club. We wanted this local cause to benefit because of its amazing work with babies and their families.”

Becky Morris, ward manager at the children’s ward, said: “We would like to thank everyone who donated towards ATIK and the Echo Trust’s fundraising initiatives to make this donation possible.

“It will be our first Baby Pod which we can use when premature and neonatal babies need to be moved to different wards and departments or if they have to be transported to and from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Not all babies require full incubators; this will be easy to manoeuvre and be less traumatic for parents.”

ATIK is part of The Deltic Group, the UK’s largest operator of late night bars and clubs, which employs 3000 people across 53 venues. Since 2002 when Deltic set up the Echo Trust it has raised more than £2.5 million to grant awards to local children’s charities and children’s hospitals.
