THE newly re-elected Labour MP for Alyn & Deeside, Mark Tami, has thanked voters for putting their trust in him again to represent the area.

Mr Tami took 18,271 votes in the election on Thursday, December 12, which was the first December general election since 1923.

He said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to represent Alyn & Deeside for the last 18 years and I will continue to stand up for our area.

“Now more than ever, Flintshire needs a strong voice to defend our crucial industries in aerospace, steel, and at Toyota. Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal puts these all at risk and that is why I have argued for a deal which protects our industry.

“Tata Steel’s announcement that it will be cutting jobs is worrying news and I am calling on Boris Johnson to stand with us and protect the UK’s and Shotton’s steel industry.

“Nine years of austerity and cuts to public services have left people in Flintshire struggling to cope with rising rents and the cost of living. Earlier this month poverty in our area due to Universal Credit was highlighted again by the BBC’s Panorama programme. I will continue to fight for fair funding for Flintshire and an end to Tory austerity, which has led to food banks and rough sleeping in our community.”

Mark Tami MP has already written to the Business Secretary calling on them to intervene to safeguard jobs at Shotton steelworks.
