A SHOTTON school is celebrating after being awarded the Welsh Language Charter.

The aim of the Language Charter is to inspire children and young people to use their Welsh in all aspects of their lives.

A spokesman for the school said: "The objective of the process is to increase the use of Welsh by pupils, staff and the wider school community.

"There are three awards to work towards – Bronze, Silver and Gold. Ysgol Tŷ Ffynnon have an active Criw Cymraeg – a group of pupils who promote the Welsh - who have led on this charter.

"There are ten targets to achieve for each award and ten sub targets within each main target, totalling 100 altogether.

"Ysgol Tŷ Ffynnon were recently assessed by the Athrawon Bro and awarded with the Gwobr Efydd – Bronze Award.

"We are very proud that we have achieved this accolade and are now working towards the silver award. Well done to the whole school."

The school said they were also proud to see their pupils invited to sing Christmas songs at the Deeside Leisure Centre.

The spokesman added: "We are very proud of all who took part and those who came along to support."
