A FLINTSHIRE high school has been overwhelmed by the response to its annual Christmas appeal this year in support of local families.

In just three weeks, Flint High School’s staff, students and their families have donated thousands of food items with additional wrapped Christmas gifts from staff.

Working alongside charity, the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Claire Evans, head of Year 9, and Angela Chatfield, head of Year 7, have coordinated the appeal.

The school has twenty-eight forms and the teachers ran a whole school competition to see which form could bring in the most items.

Mr Guntrip’s Year 7 form won, with students bringing in almost one hundred items alone.

Miss Evans said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our students, their families and the staff at Flint High School and wish to thank everyone who has kindly donated to the appeal this Christmas. We have been inundated with a huge variety of items from dried and tinned foods to chocolates and toiletries. It has been one of our most successful appeals to date.

“Knowing that all of these donations will be going out to help make a difference to many families here in Flint this Christmas makes it such a rewarding appeal for us to run. We look forward to repeating this appeal next year and hope we can match or even increase the results.”

Some of the donations were delivered to the charity last week for distribution and the remainder is due to be sent out at the end of this week.
