TRIBUTES have been paid to an "inspirational" Flintshire Army officer.

Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force (ACF) announced on Friday that Company Sergeant Major Sean Hough, from Shotton, had died.

Company Sergeant Major Hough, 56, had joined Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF in October 2013 while still serving with 3 Royal Welsh and 3rd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers prior to that, where he rose to the rank of WO1 (RSM) and served with distinction in Afghanistan.

He was appointed a Sergeant Major Instructor in 2014 serving latterly as the Company Sergeant Major for Crecy Company – The Senior Cadet Company.

Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF described him as "a special mentor and guide to cadets and adults with his experience and special personality."

A spokesman said that among his many achievements will be the delight he had at the outstanding performance by the large army cadet marching contingent he had trained on parade at the National Armed Forces Day in Llandudno in 2018 which drew praise from far and wide.

Commandant Colonel Martin Craven said: “Sean was a very proud Royal Welch Fusilier who served his country before joining Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF.

"As a Sergeant Major Instructor he was respected by all and always acted in a professional friendly manner and was a true gentleman. We will all miss his quick wit, banter and friendship; he will be missed by all.”

Cadet Jason Blease summed up the thoughts of many with his post: “CSM Hough was a inspirational figure to us all and inspired young cadets to do well in the ACF and develop their skills and themselves to become better people.

"CSM Hough was one of the best if not the best CFAV and loved to help when he could, from the news that he had passed away many cadets were disheartened and upset, thank you CSM Hough for all you have done to the ACF and our country and your family and friends, may he rest in peace and our thoughts be with his family.”

Major Gavin Jones added: “I for one have known SMI Hough for more than 20 years and will mourn his passing. A unique giant amongst men. Stand easy Sergeant Major.

Fellow Company Sergeant Major Chris Howarth said: “A great man and friend whom inspired so many Cadets and Instructors within the Army Cadet Force and fellow serviceman and woman. "He will be missed by all that he has met in his life and will never be forgotten, A true gentleman and friend.”
