A WREXHAM man was caught driving without a license after returning from helping people recover from recent floods in Yorkshire.

Aaron Wyn Evans, 29, of Holborn Crescent, who regularly works around the country, had not long returned from helping people in Sheffield, when he was stopped by police.

Not only did Evans not have a driving license, he had also been drinking, but came clean to officers at the scene.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, told Mold Magistrates Court that Evans had been stopped by police at around 6.30 on November 26 after pulling off a poorly executed u-turn, right in front of a police car. Mr Espie said how Evans had mounted the curb trying to complete the manoeuvre and that officers decided to pull him over. He immediately said to officers, “I’ll be honest, I’ve been drinking”, and it was revealed that his provisional driving license had expired and he also had no insurance.

When tested at the scene, Evans a sample of 64 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, with the limit being 35mg/100ml.

Wendy Shurrock, defending, told the court that her client was very sorry for what he had done and knows he made a terrible mistake. She added how the nature of his job meant he was often away from the area, where he lives with his long term partner, and that he had only just returned home and drunk two cans of lager with her.

Ms Shurrock went on to say that Evans had never taken his driving test, but now accepted that it was time he sorted his license out and he would do so after his period of disqualification ended.

Evans was fined a total of £800 and ordered to pay other costs of £125. He was also banned from driving for18 months.
