DESPITE having a Cock Bank Lane and a Butts Hill Court, Wrexham has not made it into the latest list of silliest street names in the UK.

But There And Back Again Lane, Ha-Ha Road and Titty Ho have all been named among a list of the funnier roads in the country.

Researchers from driving experts LeaseVan.co.uk have revealed 35 of the silliest street names from across the UK, with many of those highlighted likely to bring on fits of laughter in homes, offices and playgrounds around the country.

Cock Bank Lane in Marchwiel and Butts Hill Court in Gresford have made it on to previous lists of Britain’s funniest or most rude street names.

But this time they lost out to streets including Crutched Friars, French Ordinary Court and Frying Pan Alley in central London.

Ghost House Lane in Nottingham, There And Back Again Lane in Bristol and Christmas Pie Avenue in Surrey also made the cut.

In Flintshire and Denbighshire, people might refer to areas as Tarts Hill or Sodom, but neither has found its way on to a street name as yet.

It is believed the latter was coined when English industrial workers migrated to North Wales in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Locals would refer to the shanty-towns of these newcomers as Babylon or Sodom.

At number 19 on the list is Worlds End Road in Birmingham. But here in North Wales we can do one better with a whole vale by that name between Wrexham and Llangollen.

Elsewhere, even families fortunate enough to live on one of Scotland’s priciest residential roads – in the Grange area of Edinburgh – still have to put up with it’s silly name: Dick Place.

Tim Alcock from LeaseVan.co.uk said: “Some homeowners will see it as a curse while other families will love it, but one thing is for certain – living on or near a street with a silly name certainly isn’t boring.

“As vehicle specialists we’re constantly talking to drivers, who spend their days travelling the length and breadth of the UK.

“So for the entertainment of all road users, we’ve highlighted some of the most amusing lanes, streets and alleys we’ve come across over the years.”
