GWALCHMAI progressed in the Lock Stock Division Two Challenge Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 home victory over Llannefydd.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two leaders had to be at their resolute best to book their place in the hat at the expense of a side that are expected to be challenging strongly during the second half of the campaign after a number of new signings including experienced centre half Miles Todd from Denbigh Town.

The home side managed to take a slender cushion into the half-time interval thanks to a converted chance on 36 minutes from Cory Sinnott, who continued his outstanding recent form in front of goal with another well-taken finish past visiting custodian Stuart Griffiths.

After the break saw both sides spurn good opportunities to impact the score throughout the second period, and with Llan throwing caution to the wind in pursuit of a route back into the tie late on, they were undone for a second and final time.

This came courtesy of prolific striker Marc Evans, who has been in relentless form of late and came up with another impressive strike to decide the fixture with four minutes remaining.

It promises to be a hugely important December for the newly promoted championship contenders, with Gwalchmai taking on Penmaenmawr Phoenix and Llandudno Junction over the festive period in their quest for the crown.
