A TEAM of Wrexham volunteers has hand knitted over 800 angels which have flooded key parts of the town today.

The Salvation Army co-ordinated the mass knit project which saw members of its Wrexham church and community centre, located on Garden Road, take up the knitting challenge.

Along with members of other churches in the town, they have provided 850 angels in the hope that they give comfort to the local community ahead of the festive season.

Benches, park railings shop doors and even mobility scooters at the town’s Shopmobility saw an angel tied in the morning of Friday, November 29, spreading a Christmas blessing.

Karen Edwards, community manager at The Salvation Army in Wrexham said: “You never know what someone is going through and when they might need a little encouragement to see that there is hope, even at the toughest of times.

“Christmas is a particularly difficult time for many and by tying the angels to key parts of the town it means that we can reach people who may be isolated and vulnerable or those that just want to enjoy in a bit of festive cheer.

“If someone is in need we hope that they find comfort in the angels and know where we are to offer help and support, comforted in the knowledge that someone is always there and willing to listen.”

Each angel has a Christmas blessing attached and a link to the church and community centre’s Facebook page where requests for support can be placed.

People can also contact the church direct where someone is available to listen and offer guidance.

Peter Jones, a member of the church, knitted over 100 of the angels and supported in placing them around the town.

He said: “I wanted to take part in something that would help others and potentially make a difference to lives.

“People may feel low going into their place of work or they may just want a boost. Even if these angels only bring comfort to the lives of a few, it will have been worth it to know someone in need, in whatever way, has been supported.”

The Christmas blessing reads ‘This Christmas, let hope warm your heart, love warm your family and the Holy Spirit warm all mankind. May the harmony of Christmas stay in your heart all year round and may the Lord send His blessings’.
