A FLINTSHIRE man walked thousands of miles in a kilt after his mum was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

Kevin Roberts put himself to the chilly test as he embarked on an adventure to walk to Everest base camp in a bid to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Earlier this year he also took part in a 100-mile cycle around London and walked the 177 miles of the Offa's Dyke Path.

He said his inspiration was his mum, Mal Roberts, as she was diagnosed at the start of the year, however, she was told doctors could not operate to remove the lump and was put on a course of hormone treatment.

Mal has already survived a brain tumour and a series of strokes throughout her life.

Kevin said of his latest challenge: "It was great. I managed it better this time than the last time I walked it because it was slightly warmer.

"The people were great and it was an interesting experience.

"I was with a fantastic bunch of people."

Kevin chose to raise funds for the Prevention Breast Cancer charity as it took his mum two years after she first felt the lump to report it due to her 'reluctance to bother anyone'.

Television stars like Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster on Coronation Street, also embarked on the walk.

It is not yet known how much Kevin raised personally but said the group total currently sits at £112,000.
