A MOTORIST caught driving with cocaine in her system has been fined £120 and banned from the road.

Nicola Cummings, 21, of Salisbury Street, Shotton appeared before North East Wales Magistrates’ Court where she pleaded guilty to two counts of drug driving.

She was pulled over by police in Golftyn Lane in Connah’s Quay in the early hours of June 19 this year. Her reactions appeared slow to the officers and she had to undertake a roadside test which proved positive for cocaine.

A later blood test at the station showed a reading of 89 for the drug; the legal limit being 10. She also produced a reading of 800 for BZE, a metabolite of cocaine when the legal limit is 50.

The court heard Cummings had previously been convicted of offences of driving while disqualified, resisting a police officer and driving without insurance in the same incident and had received a 10-week curfew and an 18-month driving ban.

But she had to attend court again after the results of her drugs tests came through.

The court was told that she was receiving support from the community drugs and alcohol team.

She was handed a 12-month driving disqualification with both bans being totalled up. Cummings was also told to pay a victim surcharge of £32, but there were no costs.
