A GROUP of Flintshire slimmers are doing their bit to help the homeless as the cold winter nights draw in.

Members of Sychdyn Slimming World, run by Nicky Swain, have pulled together and gathered an impressive haul of goods for homeless people living in Flintshire and Wrexham.

Nicky said: “Every year as a group we do something for charity for those less fortunate than ourselves and over the last three years we have chosen to help the homeless. We wanted to go bigger and better this year so, with it being Slimming Worlds 50th Anniversary, the group decided to try and really up our game.”

She told the Leader that the members purchased 50 sleeping bags and 50 rucksacks – as well as donating numerous items to fill the rucksacks with from sweet treats and biscuits to toiletries and warm clothing that we often take for granted in winter as temperatures drop.

The group, who meet weekly at Scyhdyn Memorial Hall on Tuesday’s, filled their donation tables with chocolate bars, crisps, bottled water as well as deodorant, sanitary items and items for pets that stay with homeless people.

Nicky and the group members are looking to distribute the items before December around the Flint, Connah’s Quay and Wrexham area where members are aware of people in need that sleep rough.

Nicky added that she is “super proud of her group for going above and beyond expectations” and looks forward to delivering the parcels to those who need them in the community.
