Tata Steel has confirmed plans to cut 1,000 jobs in the UK.
The company, which has a plant in Shotton, last week outlined a 'transformation programme' which could see 3,000 jobs loss across its European operations, about two-thirds of which would be management and office-based roles..
Tata Steel announced on Wednesday (November 27) it intends 'to lower employment costs' - with 1,000 UK jobs set to be lost.
The steelmaker giant's Shotton plant currently employs approximately 750 people.
Tata Steel in Europe CEO, Henrik Adam, said: “I’m very proud to see the dedication of everyone in this business, determined to succeed even in the face of a very tough market. I also understand and appreciate colleagues’ concerns about these proposals.
"Change creates uncertainty, but we cannot afford to stand still as a company – the world around us is changing fast and we have to adapt. Our strategy is to build a strong and stable European business, capable of making significant investments needed for a successful future.”
The company has as yet not confirmed where in the UK jobs will be lost.
