AN ASSEMBLY Member has congratulated business owners on their ambition to create a safe space.

Jack Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside, met with owners and staff of Mirror Mirror Hair & Beauty Studio, in Shotton to hear about their ambition to make the business a safe space, where people can discuss domestic abuse.

Mr Sargeant heard first hand from the owner Fern Lewis and senior beauty therapist Teri Jones how they had recently completed training with North Wales Police.

The Make the Cut training is for hair and beauty salon owners, employees and students to help them to identify the signs of their clients being abused and what they can then do to help, by signposting them to the various support agencies available to them. Survivors of domestic abuse will also talk about their experiences.

The Assembly Member met to talk about their ambition for a safe space and the benefits of the training ahead of White Ribbon Day on Monday, November 25.

Jack Sargeant is a White Ribbon Ambassador and is urging men across his Alyn and Deeside constituency to find out more and make the White Ribbon promise

The White Ribbon promise is to ‘Never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women'."

The AM added: “I would like to congratulate Fern and Teri for the work they are doing, creating safe spaces where people can talk about domestic abuse and be sign posted to get help, is absolutely crucial.

"On average two women are killed by their partner or ex-partner every week in England and Wales and that has to change.

"The White Ribbon Campaign do amazing work and I would urge everyone, particularly men to make the promise."

White Ribbon day or to give its full title International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is on November 25 and you can find out more and make the promise online at https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk/promise
