MEMBERS of a martial arts club came together to raise hundreds of pounds for a worthy cause.

Gavin Eastham, founder of Cobra Life Martial Arts Academy based in Deeside, asked his members to get involved with Wear it Pink in October, aiming to raise awareness of breast cancer.

All members were asked to wear a pink belt throughout the October month and donate to Cancer Research UK.

As a result, £516 was raised.

He told the Leader: "When we decided to help support and raise awareness of Breast Cancer we had no idea that it would gain the traction it did.

The Leader:

"The fact is we all know someone who is affected by this horrible disease. If we all just did a little something to raise awareness or a little fundraising then that would have a huge impact."

Mr Eastham said it was a cause close to his heart after finding out in October that his mother had died from the disease.

He added: "Our members are so thrilled that they were able to help raise £516 this year from £70 something last year.

"To see children of all ages wearing pink and understand why they are doing it is amazing."
