MILLIONS of pounds have been awarded across North Wales over the last 25 years.

The National Lottery is celebrating its 25th birthday today (Tuesday, November 19) and charities across Flintshire and Wrexham are marking the ‘incredible impact’ of the £101million awarded to more than four thousand good causes in the area.

The National Lottery's first draw took place on November 19, 1994 and the 25th Birthday is a moment to celebrate the extraordinary impact the National Lottery has had on local charities and organisations.

As part of the celebrations today, a unique map of Wales, featuring 14 of the most iconic landmarks funded over the last 25 years will be unveiled.

The map, which will be on display at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, features Tŷ Pawb, the cultural, performance and community resource hub in Wrexham which invested £2.5 million of National Lottery funding on breathing new life into the former underused indoor market building in the centre of the town.

The Leader:

A wide variety of local projects in Flintshire and Wrexham have received National Lottery funding over the last 25 years, including £1.1million to We Mind The Gap in Wrexham and £661,500 to Wepre Park.

Small amounts worth up to £10,000 have also been awarded to bring benefits to communities far and wide. These include Vic Music Recording Studios in Wrexham, the Buckley Girls Gymnastics Club and many more.

The National Lottery has also helped develop some of Wales’ most successful and recognisable Olympic and Paralympic athletes to thrive and achieve legendary status.

Those who have reaped the rewards from the National Lottery funded World Class Programme from Wales over the years include Jade Jones - Wales’ double Olympic Taekwondo Champion and World Champion from Flint, and Sabrina Fortune, the British Paralympic track and field athlete from Mold competing in category F20 throwing events.

The World Class Programme affords athletes coaching, training, and competition support, medical, technology and scientific services.
