A WREXHAM landlord has launched appeals over plans for two houses in multiple occupation (HMOs).

Andrew Shield previously applied to Wrexham Council to increase the capacity of an existing HMO on Beechley Road to accommodate eight people.

His bid to up the number of tenants living in the property on the edge of the town centre was refused at a planning committee meeting earlier this month because of concerns over parking and litter.

The committee also chose to put his proposals to create a new HMO on the Pentre Maelor Estate on hold as new information was given to them late in the process.

Councillors said they would consider the application to convert a family home on Bridgeway West at their next meeting.

However, Mr Shield has now appealed to the Planning Inspectorate over both sets of plans.

It comes after an agent acting on his behalf described him as being a “responsible” landlord.

In appeal documents relating to the Pentre Maelor property, Bob Dewey said: “The appellant operates a number of HMOs across Wrexham and has always tried to engage with the local community.

“He remains anxious to be a good and responsible landlord willing to respond to any problems that may arise.

“His contact details and telephone number will be provided to the immediate neighbours of the property.

“The appellant is well aware of the council’s revised planning guidance and is satisfied that his proposal would meet that guidance.

“It is deeply disappointing that in the light of a strong demand for this type of accommodation, the council appears to be unwilling to permit this type of use.”

Mr Shield also entered a separate appeal last month over the refusal of plans which would have almost doubled the number of people living in a HMO on Erddig Road.

The latest appeals will be considered by inspectors appointed by the Welsh Government at a later date.
