RADIO presenters at a community station will rock around the clock in a bid to set a Guinness World Record.

Matt Winson, 31, and Daniel Fisher, 24, hope to get the seal of approval for their 24-hour radio broadcast at Calon FM in Wrexham where they plan to showcase as many live musical acts as they can in 24 hours.

The record bid will feature local bands like bi-lingual act The GOGS, rapper Misfit and Megan Lee of Coedpoeth-based country band Blue Genes and will be broadcast from 7am on December 10 to 7am on December 11.

Matt says the aim is to introduce at least 100 different performances while on air and he has already enlisted 20 bands for the record bid with four more artists needed to fill the hourly slots.

“The aim is to go non-stop around the clock to set the record. We’ve checked it out and no radio station or broadcaster has attempted this before,” said Matt.

“We’re looking to have a band in each hour and each band will do at least four short shows interspersed with an interview.”

The presenting duo have found no problems with bands prepared to sign up for the early morning shifts and there will be a diverse mix of genres and geography on show with acts from as far as Caernarfon, Manchester and Liverpool.

“We have got a local rock band called Tillerama who will be writing and performing a new song on air and that will be at five in the morning,” said Matt, a radio production student at Glyndwr University who hosts the ‘UnsignedHour’ show on Tuesday afternoons on Calon.

“We’re taking over the whole of the Calon studios for 24 hours as well as the foyer building at the university for the bands to stay, although there won’t be any heavy drum kits and equipment as it will all be acoustic performances.”

Matt is also setting up a GoFundMe page to accept donations for charity, including Llay-based Yourspace which provides activities and clubs for children with autism.
