A COUNCILLOR has been ‘losing sleep’ after mindless vandalism has plagued a town bowling club for the second time this year.

Leeswood Bowling Club has been targeted by vandals once again – with the club having one of its windows smashed to pieces overnight.

Ray Hughes, a local county councillor who is also a member of the bowling club, said that he has had enough of the ‘mindless’ incidents and contacted the local PCSO after discovering the damage.

The Leader:

Glass from the window was completely shattered

He found the floor covered in glass yesterday morning and a second window – that could only have been opened from the inside - left open.

Cllr Hughes said: “This kind of mindless vandalism really destroys the reputation of a small community like Leeswood.

“We should be proud of the facilities that we have but it is such a shame that a minority of people think this type of behaviour is acceptable.”

The councillor added that these kinds of incidents are typically rare but has recently been losing sleep over the chance that further damage will occur.

The Leader:

Cllr Ray Hughes and Leeswood Bowling Club secretary Rob Jackson are fed up of mindless vandalism

Vandals had smashed several windows around the bowling club area in August which resulted in hundreds of pounds in damages.

Photographs taken by the Leader showed a smashed window with a brick thrown into the clubhouse as well as damaged windows in the neighbouring community centre.

Cllr Hughes added that these acts of vandalism are causing the club to spend money they ‘cannot afford to waste’ in repairing the damage.

The Leader:

He added: “It is very sad that people choose to do this sort of thing, and I’m really disappointed that we’ve been hit with this spate of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.”

“We need to take a stand against the people responsible.”
