A BUCKLEY primary school have paid their respects to fallen soldiers through a commemorative art project.

Pupils at Southdown Primary School completed various pieces of art ahead of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

Year 3 children were tasked with creating shape poems while Year 6 pupils created a label which shows what wearing a poppy means today.

The project was been delivered during the school’s expressive arts sessions by Mrs Joanne Jones and Anna Humphreys.

Teacher John Jones said: “We have lots of families who have connections to the military and have had relatives serve for our country. As a school, we think it is vital to recognise their service and sacrifice.

“With the curriculum developing, opportunities to be expressive will be as important as ever. At Southdown, we are passionate about giving learners these opportunities and the standard of work produced this week shows this. I would like to thank Mrs Jones and Mrs Humphreys for all of their hard work. The children have been so engaged during sessions and have developed their knowledge, skills and understanding.”
