A FUNDRAISING page has been set up to help pay the veterinary costs of a found horse impaled on a fence.

The Leader reported on November 5 that a horse, named Harry, had suffered the horrendous injury after he bolted from a field at a Holywell livery after it is believed he been spooked by fireworks.

And now a GoFundMe page has been set up in the hope of raising £5000 to cover the veterinary bills which it is costing to cover Harry's treatment.

Lily Roberts, who works at Basingwerk Stud where Harry was when the incident occurred, said that he is doing well, but has 'a long road to recovery'.

She said: "He's alive, but has a long road ahead if he's going to recover.

"The muscles in the affected leg have completely died - so he's going to be in the vets for at least the next six to eight weeks.

"But he's not in pain as he's heavily sedated - and he had a lot of dirt and twigs in his eyes which has now been removed with luckily no lasting damage."

And Miss Roberts is now campaigning for tighter laws surrounding the sale of fireworks.

She said: "I love bonfire night, it's one of my favourite nights of the year but I am sick of seeing animals and humans suffer unnecessarily for these things.

"There are so many free fantastic fireworks displays around, stop setting them off in your back garden."
