A POPULAR Wrexham carer has scooped a prestigious national award.

Emily Mcleod, who works at Gwastad Hall Nursing Home in Llay, took home the Care Home Activity Organiser Award at British Care Awards in Cardiff.

Emily, who became an internet sensation when she was videoed singing to one of the home's residents, was nominated by colleagues and friends an family of Gwastad Hall residents.

She has been recognised for her brilliant and enterprise work, such as organising for a Shetland Pony to go to the care home.

She also had to attend an interview as part of the process, which she said she thought 'went terribly' - but to her more than pleasant surprise she scooped the award at a glittering ceremony at Cardiff's Park Plaza hotel.

She said: "I can’t wait to celebrate with everybody at the home now because all my ladies who I support I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn't for them.

"I just want to thank everyone for the support as it’s all so overwhelming - I can’t believe little me from the (Bryn) Derw has had an achievement like this.

Emily also paid homage to the people who funded her trip to Cardiff, which she had fundraised for.

"I wouldn't even have been able to attend if it wasn't for members of the community through their donations, so I owe them such a massive thanks."
