A BOXING event tackling the stigma surrounding mental illness will take place in Flintshire.

The event, titled 'Fighting the Silence', will take place at Buckley's Tivoli venue on December 1 - starting at 3pm.

Mavericks Boxing Promotions presents the UBA sanctioned boxing event in aid of the 'Don't Suffer in Silence' campaign - a support group for people dealing with thoughts of suicide, depression and genera mental health issues.

The event is being chiefly organised by local boxer and coach, Jonathan Sellers, and will see local boxers compete in a number of bouts.

He said: "It's a subject very close to my heart, I've lost a couple of close friends to suicide so in my mind it's time to try and help the tackle the issue and reduce the stigma around it.

"I just want this event to show people that's ok not to be ok, and that there are people out there literally fighting your corner."

The day will be a raffle, auction merchandise sales, and possible stalls for anyone interested.

The Leader:

Jonathan added: "Anyone who'd like to set up a stall can get in touch with me, and we are also looking for any sponsors, donations or prizes.

"And anyone that would be interested in giving boxing a go contact me we will be having multiple titles on the show.

"It's promising to be a fun filled event in aid of a very important cause."

Jonathan is also appealing to anyone that has lost someone to suicide that if they would like to have one of the boxers come out wearing a personalised T-shirt with a photo of your loved one.

The shirt will then be signed - all for a cost of £15 each. Please contact me with details many thanks.
