RESIDENTS are being encouraged to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of the forthcoming general election.

Over the last few months households in Flintshire will have received a form asking residents to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register for that address is correct. This has been done as part of Flintshire Council's annual canvass of households.

To vote in the forthcoming general election, residents must be registered.

Most residents have already responded to the annual canvass.

Those who have not are being asked to simply check their form and if their details are unchanged they can reply by free phone, internet or by text.

If their details have changed they can update this information by visiting www.registerbyinternet.com/flintshire or, alternatively, post the form back to the council.

If residents are not currently registered to vote the council can send them information explaining how to do this, or they can submit an application to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, contact the elections team on the number below or the council can send out a form.

Residents must register by Tuesday, November 26 in order to vote at this election.

Colin Everett, electoral registration officer for Flintshire said: "It is important that people are able to vote in local, regional and national elections. The annual canvass keeps the electoral register up to date.

“Following the announcement of a general election to be held on 12 December our elections team have seen an increase in enquiries from residents wanting to check if they are registered to vote.

“The elections team are able to quickly assist residents with their enquiries.

"However, if you have already responded to the annual canvass to confirm or update your details and you have registered individually by providing your date of birth and national insurance number (if not already registered) then there is no need re-register. Please only contact us if you still need to register.”

Residents are asked to return their forms by Tuesday, November 26 and anyone who needs further advice and assistance can contact the elections team at 01352 702412 or by email: register@flintshire.gov.uk
