A SEASIDE holiday trip proved costly for a Wrexham man who jumped into his car after having a drink, a court heard.

Wayne Benjafied, 45, of Russell Grove admitted driving while unfit through drink at Presthaven Sands Holiday Park on October 15 this year.

North East Wales Magistrates’ Court was told how Benjafield got into his Audi and roared off after a family drink.

Prosecutor Justin Espie said the defendant was told not to drive, but he was seen revving his engine and driving off.

He was spotted by a security officer parked up outside the park.

A breath test gave a reading of 42mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath; the legal limit is 35.

“It arose after a domestic incident was reported at the caravan park late in the evening,” said Mr Espie.

David Matthews, defending, said: “He (Benjafield) drove a very short distance. He had gone for a drink, but he had not had many drinks.

“He suffers from anxiety and stress and had an argument.

“He accepts he shouldn’t have been at the wheel. He is ashamed of his actions.”

District Judge Gwyn Jones handed the defendant a 12-month driving ban and fined him £220. He also ordered costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £32.
