A FLINTSHIRE neighbourhood watch coordinator has donated security items to local people.

Parc Jasmin Neighbourhood Watch in Broughton are giving its residents home security equipment and advice to help make their area a safer place to live.

This comes after North Wales Police's recent prediction of an increase in twilight burglaries across the Flintshire area as winter approaches.

David Smith, Parc Jasmin Broughton Neighbourhood Watch coordinator, has gifted light switch timers, magnetic window covers (to black out windows), door alarms and no cold caller stickers to residents.

He said “I hope that by donating home security items and providing crime prevention advice it will raise awareness and vigilance, deter opportunists and provide residents with reassurance.

"I am committed to helping make my community a safer place to live for residents.”

Homes with no security measures in place are five times more likely to be burgled than those with simple security measures, police figures show.

Mr Smith added: "Good window locks and strong deadlocks can make a big difference. Taking just a few steps can make a big difference in keeping your home safe from burglary."
