I am getting older, we all are, but for me that means I am starting to love gardening and now understand why my dad enjoyed it so much.

There is nothing more satisfying then planting a bulb or a seed and watching it develop into a beautiful plant, fruit or vegetable.

That being so, I can now not get enough of gardening programmes on TV.

I find them educational and informative and have actually learned a few things from them.

Back on our screens is Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh and team.

Each week they totally change the garden of a most deserving person and their families.

This week the team tackled one of their most difficult plots in a garden in Pontypool, south Wales, helping father-of-three Chris Garlick, a physiotherapist and sports masseur who lost his hands and feet to sepsis just 22 months earlier.

Chris is now determined to turn what has happened to him into a positive and raise awareness but spending time outdoors with his family is a big challenge and he feels guilty he can't get out and play with his young children.

He had a huge space and was not using it.

Host, Alan said he had never seen a project as daunting as this one but did not want Chris stuck on patio like Billy no mates!

So the mammoth task began on the quarter of an acre plot and the end result was stunning.

Katie Rushworth created a contemporary style water-feature-come-bench that would look good in any garden, and Frances Tophill showed how soft naturalistic planting with the emphasis on scent can create the perfect garden for wellness.

Chris had wheelchair access everywhere, he had a chill out hut, the kids had an adventure playground including a tree house, and there was a social/dining area.

The planting was beautiful and included three palm trees.

It was a real life-changer for the whole family and certainly has made me appreciate my little space even more.

Gardens are great therapy no matter what their size.

But this series is more than about gardening, it is about human resilience and inspiration. Alan Titchmarsh is not only a great gardener who explains his planting schemes brilliantly but he is a compassionate human being and really does care about the people he and his team are helping.
